Even with Android 4.4 looming over the horizon, some smartphones, especially the most recent models, are still trekking the road towards Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. One such device, the Samsung Galaxy S 4, isn’t scheduled to get the update until later this month or even next month, but a leaked firmware might just make it possible for excited and willing users to get it before hand.
The Galaxy S 4 might be Samsung‘s latest flagship, disregarding the recent Galaxy Note 3 S Pen phablet, but it is still, at the moment, running a slightly older Android 4.2 version. Of course, the Google Play Edition of the smartphone already received its Android 4.3 update last August but, at least to one French carrier‘s calendar, the Galaxy S 4 itself isn’t scheduled to get the update until late October or, at the latest, around November.
At the start of the month, a leaked Android 4.3 firmware, the I9505XXUEMI8, for the smartphone was already making rounds over the Internet, and now we have yet another firmware going out. But, unlike that previous test version, this latest test firmware, this time with a build number I9505XXUEMJ3, is one of the final builds. This means that no big changes are expected to be added to this build aside from bug fixes, making it practically usable.
That’s not to say, of course, that it will be guaranteed to work 100% and users are cautioned to make this jump at their own risk, especially considering this unofficial version will require wiping the device. The firmware is also clearly marked for Galaxy S 4 GT-I9505 models, but it is also said to have been tested to work on a GT-I9500 variant as well.
