Google and NASA to launch cooperating robots equipped with phones , " Tango " to space

Announced " Google " for its cooperation with the U.S. space agency " NASA " in order to integrate the project smartphones hers Project Tango, robots in preparation for its launch into space , and specifically to the International Space Station .

Featuring phones developed within the project " Tango " sophisticated sensors capable of forming three-dimensional map of the surrounding environment such devices , a project which is supervised by the Department of " cutting-edge technologies and projects " with " Google " .

The " Google " that robots will be equipped with phones , " Tango " Smart will be able to provide support to the astronauts while they are docked with the ISS , as well as their ability to do maintenance work on the station independently .

And opted for " NASA " Robotics SPHERES, a smart robots in the form of balls , to integrate its models of smart phones developed by " Google " within the project " Tango " , and test it even launched into space later this year .

For his part , explained Terry Fong , director of the group intelligent robots at the Center for Ames in the " NASA " , that the technology used in phones " Tango " Smart has been tested during the last period to ensure their suitability to work in an environment of zero gravity , the same environment inside the International Space Station .

Fong added that the main objective of providing the robots that are cutting-edge smart technologies used to help humans to live and work in space in order to discover other worlds .

It is expected to be intelligent robots capable , when released next summer , movement and navigation independently inside the International Space Station using the phones " Tango " , as you wish " NASA " to be those robots with further development able to wander the same independence in outer space .

The "Google " revealed the project " Tango " last February , after he developed a model for smart phone running "Android " is able to build a visual map of the surrounding environment by scanning three-dimensional , using sensors able to capture more than a quarter of a million measure in per second .
